Drawing from Matthew 18:1–9, Jesus teaches that greatness in God’s kingdom is rooted in humility, repentance, and childlike dependence, not status or influence. Sin is presented as the root cause of human suffering, corrupting every part of the human person and devastating both personal lives and communal witness. Jesus issues a severe warning to His followers: while temptation is inevitable, accountability for leading oneself or others into sin is unavoidable. Through vivid metaphors—cutting off a hand or plucking out an eye—Christ commands aggressive, intentional action against both visible sins (actions and habits) and hidden sins of the heart (pride, lust, bitterness). These warnings flow from God’s love, not cruelty, as He desires His people to avoid eternal separation and live transformed lives.
